British powerboat racers Sam and Daisy Coleman are heading for Mumbai airport tonight with the NEXA P1 Powerboat Indian Grand Prix of the Seas world championship team trophy in their luggage after their unbeaten performances this weekend took the Baleno RS Booster Jets to the top of the leader board. Standing alongside them on the podium were Indian driver CS Santosh and his UK navigator Martin Robinson who were able to finish consistently adding to the tremendous points haul by Sam and Daisy who won all 3 races as well as qualifying with the quickest lap on Friday.  

The innovative team championship format has aroused considerable interest within the sport and proved to be a success with the racers, spectators and the media. The battle for the world title ended with the Baleno RS quartet edging out the Lloyd Dolphins team of Craig Wilson and William Enriquez from the United States and the British husband and wife pairing of Stuart and Sara Cureton by just two-points.  

The all-British team of James Norvill, Charlie Parsons-Young, and brothers Glyn and Lee Norvall took third place.

In this afternoon’s final race of the championship the Coleman’s led from the front with their best start of the weekend, but Craig Wilson drove superbly to pressurize them throughout the 50-minute race and finish just 13 seconds behind. The choppy conditions and the 20-lap race distance made it a gruelling afternoon for all the teams, with fitness again playing a crucial role.  

Sam Coleman told reporters at a packed press conference on the shores Mumbai that it was a long and tough race;

“After the two races yesterday in 30+ degrees heat Daisy and I suffered today and had to battle through the pain barrier to maintain our early lead. We like the tactical aspect of the team championship concept and with CS Santosh in our team we received tremendous support from the Indian spectators.”  

After edging out James and Charlie’s Money On Mobile boat to qualify 1st on Friday by 1 hundredth of second the pair didn’t let off, romping to 2 victories on Saturday before sealing the team win in Sunday’s Grand Finale.  

 In addition to becoming world team champions, the Coleman’s three race victories in India have seen them crowned the inaugural UIM P1 Superstock World Champions.
