Cancellation of the RA Service of Remembrance - NMA

Posted 22/05/20

Following advice from the NMA, it is with great regret that we are having to cancel our Service of Remembrance, which was due to have taken place at the NMA on Saturday 4th July 2020.  The NMA have advised that, although they may be open to individuals (at the earliest on 4 July), they are of the view that they would not be able to host an organised event at that stage.  They have been unable to offer an alternative date later in the year and clearly feel that such events are unlikely to be permissible in the foreseeable future.  We have discussed with NMA the possibility of running an event with fewer numbers but this will not be possible under the current rules.

In the circumstances we have little option but to agree with the NMA's position.  Our decision is based on the current available information issued by the government in line with their guidance for Staying Alert and Safe (social distancing).  Under these guidelines, gatherings such as ours, even with reduced numbers, are not permitted until further notice.  As you would expect, we also have to place the safety and well-being of our membership at the very top of our priorities.

The cancellation of this very popular and prestigious event is greatly regretted but as a responsible organisation we are left with no other choice.

If government rules and guideline change we will review the situation but in the meantime please be rest assured that we will do everything to make next year’s service as special and as memorable as ever.

Stay alert, stay safe and look after each other.
