NI VETERANS' ENGAGEMENT

Posted 23/08/21

Dear All,   We have received a request from David Richmond, the Cabinet Office Independent Veterans Advisor, seeking your views, and those of your Op BANNER veteran members, on the government’s proposals to address legacy issues from the Northern Ireland Troubles.   David’s ask is straightforward and highlighted below. You will also note his willingness to meet with you and/or your members, individually or severally for more detailed discussions as required.    Regarding engaging with NI veterans regarding the Government's proposals for a statute of limitations and a variety of other associated proposals.     Below is a link to the Command Paper

which sets out the proposal in some detail and I would ask that you pass this to the network of Regimental Associations for their views on it and, where appropriate, what they would prefer the solution to be or areas where they feel it needs to be strengthened or areas it has missed.   I will be very happy to meet (virtually or face to face) with a group or groups to discuss it further should you think that would be helpful.

I am not in any way here to 'sell' the proposal but simply to understand veterans' thoughts on it and feed those back to the NIO.   ·

Please email your response to the Regimental Secretary, Colonel Matthew Carter directly by Close of play 5th September 2021.   Col M. Carter:  matthew.carter133@mod.gov.uk

Best Wishes,

General
