St Barbara's Day

Posted 08/12/21

On Sunday 5th December 2021, the Royal Regiment of Artillery celebrated St Barbara’s Day with a Service held at The Royal Garrison Church of St Alban with St Barbara.  The service was led by Maj The Rev Roger Grafton CF, Chaplain to 14 Regt RA accompanied by The Ven Stephen Robbins CB, Honorary Chaplain to the RA.

Despite a bitterly cold northerly wind a large gathering of the serving regiment, veterans and their families attended the service, with lunch being served at the Royal Artillery Mess afterwards. Prior to the service, 14 smartly turned-out Standard Bearers paraded before the Master Gunner St James’s Park.

At the beginning of the service the new Standard of ‘Red Cypher’, 3rd Regiment RHA’s, Charity and Past and Present Members was presented and dedicated.

This year we witnessed the blessing of the new Standard of the Royal School of Artillery.  This arranged as part of the RSA’s Centenary celebrations.  The Standard will join the other Regimental Standards that hang in the Garrison Church.

Prior to lunch, a superb historical display by the Garrison Artillery Volunteers was held outside the Royal Artillery Mess depicting artillery through the ages.  An impressive spectacle that held everyone captivated.

Many thanks go to all who had been involved with organising every aspect of a day that was appreciated and enjoyed by all who attended.
