In 2019 a team of military veterans and serving personnel, led by archaeologists, excavated the site of Wellington's Field Hospital on the world famous battlefield of Waterloo. This year they are running 3 more programmes for veterans which may be of interest to you, built around the archaeology of the Battle of Waterloo, they are looking to find participants who require support with their wellbeing, recovery, education, employment, or transition.
2021 programmes are:
Virtual Support Programme - a six-month virtual programme open to veterans and serving personnel, ideal for anyone interested in military history or archaeology. Participants will learn about the Battle of Waterloo, military history, and archaeology while developing a toolkit of coping strategies. This programme will help reduce social isolation as well as create real skills and opportunities. The programme's centerpiece will be a six-week educational package (featuring lectures, seminars, and other group and interactive activities). It will also include regular wrap-around wellbeing care and support. Application is now open, with selection interviews in March. The programme will start in April. (This Programme will run in place of our traditional annual excavation).
Finds programme - a 12-month programme, for veterans only, that focuses on archaeological finds. Supported by the National Army Museum, this programme is ideal for those who like history and museums and want to meet and work with similar individuals. The programme focus on finds from WU excavations at Waterloo and building a building aFinds Handling collection in particular - to be used for broader educational purposes when the country opens-up again. The programme will include wrap-around wellbeing care and support. Application is now open, with selection interviews in March. The programme will not start in full until September, but there will be regular contact between selection and then.
Creative Arts Programme - a 12-month programme, for veterans only, explores the Battle of Waterloo through creative arts. Lead by artists and creative writers, the programme will offer veterans an opportunity to explore their creative side. This programme is for veterans with some, none, or a lot of artistic experience and will comprise a series of workshops and one-on-one sessions with the artists. The curse will culminate in a residential weekend (ideally in person) in September, and some of the artistic outputs will go on display in the National Army Museum. The programme will include wrap-around wellbeing care and support. Applications are now open, with selection interviews in March. The programme will not start in full until September, but there will be regular contact between selection and then.

After 18th March, Waterloo Uncovered will contact you to have a chat. They will then contact you, to confirm if you have been successful.
