Please may we ask that if you require a reunion pack that you advertise this reunion through our website www.thegunners.org.uk and the Gunner magazine.  This is a free service and it will only require you to draft the details of the reunions i.e. Contact name, Tel Number, Reunion details & date with venue of where it is to be held.  This can then be emailed to gunnereditorial@artycen.ra.mod.uk  They need 4 weeks prior notice before the reunion takes place and no later than the 15th of each month for the Gunner.

25 Regt RA - 40th Anniversary June 2023

ATTENTION ALL EX-25 ERs. 2024 will see the 40th anniversary of the demise of the best gun Regiment of its day. We have just celebrated the 38th disbandment reunion in the usual fashion, kind courtesy of 204 Battery at Kingston Park, Newcastle, with circa 120 in attendance. There is still an intent to run the same again next year (Fri 16 and Sat 17 Jun 23). However, for 2024 we are trying to organise something a little more special to mark this amazing milestone in the coming together of this unique band of brothers.

To that end we have started to do some forward planning. As most of us are now well beyond pensionable age the first thought is to hold the event during the week rather than at the weekend. This makes booking accommodation cheaper. The planning dates are therefore Mon 24, Tue 25 and Wed 26 Jun 24. Indeed Tom Robson has managed to secure a number of quality rooms at the County Hotel (across from the Station) and the Vermont (adjacent to Newcastle Castle by the bridge) and will underwrite the accommodation for the period through his company as a charitable benefit. You still have to pay for it but at a much reduced cost and Steve will be sending out a profroma whereby you will have the opportunity to pay this up by standing order or direct debit for however long you chose to do that. Any over payment will be refunded in early 2024. This proforma will also give us a heads up on the numbers attending which functions.

We have made provisional arrangements with Newcastle’s St Nicholas Cathedral, for a commemoration/celebration service hopefully supported by the Newcastle Scottish Pipes and Drums with 25 pounder gate guards and uniformed ushers provided by 101 Regiment RA, for 1500 hrs Wed 26 Jun. This would be followed by a short reception for our invited guests with the evening culminating in a party in Newcastle’s Labour Club (drinks are cheaper than most places and the beer in on draft). We will also be providing live entertainment and a finger buffet all at no cost to those attending.

So at the moment participants should arrive on Mon 24 for a free day (although something might be slotted in here). Tue 25 you have the choice of afternoon tea for the ladies and a pie and pint for the men or whichever way round you prefer! Wed 26 Cathedral Service at 1500 hrs and as mentioned above this would be followed by a reception for our guests and a party in the evening as the main event.

Come on boys and girls none of us are getting any younger and to aim off for a 50th celebration might be pushing it a bit so this is the big chance for one rememberable great reunion. You have two years to plan so no excuses for not being able to get there. Remember no one really cares what happened in the past this is a real chance to meet face to face with those who you created some unforgettable memories with! Ubique.
