Italy Star Commemoration - 19th April 2015

Posted 13/02/15

I represent a group of WWII Italy Campaign veterans and their families who are bound together by one common goal which is to remind members' of this country that our Armed Forces were involved in Italy, a two year, ardous campaign that commenced in Sicily July 1943 and ended for many in Trieste in April 1945.  We are not associated with any other group, association or society but independently formed.

We formed our group of 2010 when I suggested, having met some of the Veterans' whilst in Rome, that their stories and experiences should be recorded and published in order that their voices are heard and the book stand alongside those that have been written about the Normandy Landings, the Blitz and The Battle for Britain.  My late father served with the Royal Artillery as a Gunner here in the UK, then North Africa and Italy and it has become a quest for me to find out just how much remains unknown about the Italy Campaign.

I have gathered memoirs from all over the world and they are currently being processed into a manuscript ready to be sent off to a Publisher but in the meantime we also launched the Italy Star Memorial Fund and plan to use funds collected to place a Memorial within the National Arboretum.  Anyone interested in learning more about what we hope to achieve our website is www.italystar43-45.co.uk

On 19th April there is to be a Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for Italy Campaign Veterans in the Chapel at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Should any Veteran or their families wish to attend then application for an Invitation should be made to me, Ann Hamlet, email address
