Apologies...and thank you; WE DID IT!

Posted 01/08/17

Following a wrongful disqualification days after winning the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea which was later overturned by our governing body; the Royal Yachting Association, as it was established the reason for DQ were out of our control and P1 had not given us a fair platform for which to state our case, we went into our home county event in Milford Haven feeling totally unprepared as the boat had been in parc ferme since Scotland.

I'm not sure if you've heard but shortly before Milford it was announced that the event in Scarborough was to be cancelled due to the council not being able to provide the funds required to run an event so Milford was to be the season finale. With 6 races scheduled, 3 races on each day back to back, a Race 1 DNS or DNF down to a mechanical would be catastrophic despite our seemingly comfortable lead of 17 points in the championship. We spent the Friday doing our pre-race checks so sadly didn't get out on the water until practice on Race Day.

Our main title rivals came flying out of the chocs and although we spent the first few laps of each of the races on Saturday chasing Milford Waterfront down, the choppy conditions left us preserving our boat and we finished all 3 races in 2nd place. This left Milford Waterfront only 8 points behind us and the same results Sunday would see us miss out on the title by a single point! We knew we only had to beat Milford in one race Sunday to keep control of the championship lead, we could then afford to follow them home in the others and still retain the championship.

Sunday the conditions were much better and we secured another two 2nds, this time to Arthur J Gallagher, we managed the gap behind to nearest rival Milford Waterfront knowing that the championship was in our hands. The final race was a tactical affair as we new we only had to finish to secure the Championship. Going down to the start run we experienced something we've never come across and our engine begin trimming itself all the way up on its own! In a mad panic we scrambled for some tape to tape the button down so we could at least finish. We knew we had to complete 9 laps to meet the 70% rule and secure points. We cruised round, coming home in 5th to be awarded 2nd overall for the event (to the Milford Waterfront team so couldn't have lost to a nicer team) and retain the Championship title. Our record still remains; we're the only team to have made podium at EVERY event :)

We'd like to send you our deepest, heartfelt thanks for continuing to support us throughout a slightly turbulent season; without you guys we wouldn't be able to race so THANK YOU!

There's rumours P1 will be laying on a World Championship in Hong Kong in October so will keep you updated then it'll be back to Mumbai in March to defend our world title. We're going to have a few weeks break over the Summer (Daisy's off to learn how to fly a plane after being awarded a scholarship with Boeing & Sam's possibly having a go at Powerboat Circuit racing and returning to the MX track!). Much love guys x

P.S. 2016's AVE Stats are in! We didn't just hit the £1m target....we SMASHED IT! Over £1.2m of Advertising Value Equivalency making it a P1 record!
