Warmest Congratulations to Robert Hume Patterson who celebrates his 100th Birthday today.

Robert joined the Army aged 19 at Dreghorn Barracks, Edinburgh. His first job was a driver and then he transferred to train on the Bofors anti-aircraft gun in England. In 1942 Robert sailed from Liverpool to Mumbai (formally known as Bombay) to join the 17th Indian Division to fight on th Burmese border, he was one, of only a few British soldiers in this Division.

Robert returned to England in 1945 and was discharged from Wellington Barracks, London, later that year.  After his discharge Robert worked at the Portobello Power Station, Edinburgh, making space to build the chimney for the Power Station.

He was then later recalled back to the Army to assist with the decommissioning of the anti-aircraft bombs on Salisbury Plain.  Robert was discharged from the Army a second time and returned to the Power Station where he worked for another 40 years.

On behalf of all Members of the Royal Regiment of Artillery we would like to wish you a very Happy Centenary Robert.
