RA Association Events Update

Posted 19/03/20

Dear Members,

Following a meeting of the National Executive yesterday at which we discussed the impact of the Coronavirus and COVID-19 in light of developments and UK Government advice, we have decided in consultation with the Royal Hospital Chelsea to cancel ‘Gunner Sunday’ on 26 April.

Looking ahead and more widely, and following a meeting of The Master Gunner’s Committee, the decision has been taken to postpone the Royal Artillery Assembly in Blackpool (15-17 May).  Everyone was clear that we wanted to hold the Assembly if at all possible rather than cancel it, and following negotiations with the Norbreck Castle Hotel I’m delighted to be able to confirm that we plan to hold the Assembly over the weekend 2 to 4 October.  We hope, circumstances permitting, to see as many there as possible.  We also continue to plan for our annual event at the NMA on Saturday 4 July.

We continue to monitor developments closely and shall adjust plans as necessary, so please keep an eye on the website for further announcements.  We have asked Regional representatives through the Branches to keep an eye in particular on our over-70 cohort and anyone that may be particularly vulnerable, and we will do our best to support those in particular need, notwithstanding the challenges we all face together.  This really is a time for us all to watch out for each other, and I ask that we do so.  As the situation continues to unfold, please also continue to watch for and follow Government and Public Health England advice.

Stay safe and best wishes,

Mark
