Royal Regiment of Artillery Service of Remembrance

Posted 20/07/22

On Saturday 2nd July the Royal Artillery Association held its RA Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum.  Around 320 people attended this special event; representatives from RHQ RA, serving regiments, veterans and their families.

The Honorary Chaplain of the RAA, the Ven Stephen Robbins, led the service and wreath-laying ceremony in the RA Memorial Garden.  A most fitting service took place in the Aspects Building, at which Brig Mark Pountain, Chairman RAA, read the Lesson.  Mr Jimmy Young received a presentation in recognition of his role as the RAA National Standard Bearer.   After the Service, we moved to the RA Memorial Garden where Brig Pountain and Col Charlie Harmer, Regt Col, led the Wreath Laying service and WO1 (RASM) Sanders recited the Ode of Remembrance.

Throughout the whole event, Mr Jimmy Young, our National Standard Bearer, organised the Standard Bearers in a manner that added a splendid pageantry to the day. The event was, once again, superbly supported by members of the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers Band with Pipes and Drums, by kind permission of the Commanding Officer 103rd Regt RA.

The event was a great success and we look forward to welcoming you next year.
