Scottish Region RAA Summer Meeting

Posted 02/09/22

The Scottish Region Royal Artillery Association Summer Meeting took place on Saturday 27th August 2022 at the 105th Regiment RA, 207(City of Glasgow) Battery RA and hosted by the Glasgow Branch RAA.Present were members from all six Scottish RAA Branches (Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kingdom of Fife, West Lothian and Tayside) together with serving members of the regions affiliated regiment,105 Regt RA.  RAA HQ was represented by Maj Dickie Davis, Secretary of the RAA, who made the long journey on what should have been a bank holiday weekend. His attendance and support was most appreciated.

The occasion was primarily an opportunity for serving and non-serving members of the RA and RAA to come together and commemorate lost comrades followed by an afternoon of celebration to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year.

The event started with a Commemoration service conducted by the Padre of 105 Regt RA, Maj Mike Goodison. Every branch lost members during the Covid period and in most cases were not permitted to attend the funerals because of restrictions. Therefore, it was most appropriate on this occasion to commemorate all seventeen members who had passed-on. The Region and each branch then laid wreaths at the Glasgow Branch memorial bench.

The members then moved indoors to be met by a street party décor creating an appropriate backdrop for fun and competitive inter branch games.

The final proceedings were the prizegiving to the games winners followed by the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation to Capt (now Maj) Dennis Paterson and then the Regions most prestigious award, the Catherine Cockwell Memorial Award, which was presented to Col Donald Cameron for outstanding commitment to the Scottish Region RAA.

The closing address and thanks were made by Maj Lee Patchel, 2IC 105 Regt, and Col Jim Kinloch, Chairman of the Scottish Region.
