JOB VACANCY – MAY 2022 ROYAL ARTILLERY ASSOCIATION SECRETARY

Captain Allan Solly, the current RAA Secretary, has announced that he will be retiring in May 2022, after some 16 years in post.  The Association is therefore inviting applications for the appointment.

The RAA exists to promote efficiency within the Royal Artillery by: maintaining contact with past and present members of the Regiment; fostering comradeship, esprit de corps and welfare; and by providing welfare support to serving and veteran members and their families.

Based in RHQRA, in Larkhill, the primary role of the RAA Secretary is to provide advice and guidance for the Association’s regions, districts and branches, and to coordinate all national RAA activities and events.  Jointly with the Assistant Secretary, the role also involves promoting the RAA and its activities through all forms of media.  A significant element of the job involves visiting branches on a rotational basis.  This often involves overnight stays.

Applications are invited from individuals who have served, or are still serving, in the Royal Artillery.  Serving applicants should be within 6 months of retirement. 

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, proven, hands-on leader who is be able to: work confidently with all stakeholders from Gunner to General; demonstrate a strong affinity for the objects of the Association and an empathy for its members; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; have strong IT skills including the effective use of websites and social media; plan and manage large scale events; and operate as a highly effective Secretary for the Association’s National Executive Committee, setting agendas and taking minutes.

The appointment is at SO2 level.  It is a full-time role. Remuneration and other T&Cs are comparable with a Civil Service C2 grade.

Applications are invited by 20 Dec 2021.  Those short-listed for interview will be notified by 07 Jan 2022 and should be prepared to be interviewed in the second half of January 2022, with the intention of confirming Captain Solly’s successor by early February.  The successful applicant will be expected to start in the role with effect from Monday 02 May 2022 and handover completed by Friday 28 May 2022 (to include the RA General Assembly in Blackpool, 19-23 May 2022.
